STREET TRASH Arrives in 4K — Uncut, Restored, and Limited to 4,000 Units

Things in New York are about to go down the toilet. Synapse Films presents an exclusive new 4K restoration of James Muro’s Street Trash, the gloriously colorful, gleefully gory horror-comedy that crawled out of the last great wave of late-’80s super-gore cinema, right before the genre traded its edge for safe R-rated scares and an endless parade of remakes.
Down among the winos, derelicts, and drifters of lower Manhattan, 18-year-old runaway Fred (Mike Lackey) and his brother Kevin (Mark Sferrazza) make their home in a tire hut behind a sprawling auto wrecking yard. Life is already rough, but the real threat comes from a case of Tenafly Viper, a forgotten stash of 40-year-old hooch discovered behind a liquor store basement wall. It has gone very, very bad. One sip and you melt into multicolored goo within seconds, and at just $1.00 a bottle, business is booming.
This is one of the most requested titles in Synapse Films history, and we wanted to get it exactly right. The new uncut restoration was struck from the original 35mm camera negative and supervised and approved by the film’s original director of photography, David Sperling, who worked closely with our team to make sure it looks the way he and James Muro intended. It’s the only 4K release of Street Trash approved by both Sperling and producer Roy Frumkes.
